Nairobi

Nairobi City (also just known as Nairobi) is the business centre for Kenya. Besides that, it also the safari hub for most safari companies where tourists can easily get to all parts of the country. Most of the airlines and charter companies are also based here.

Most travellers arrive and depart from Nairobi. There are many places to stay and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Many hotels meet international standards.

Many safari operators will already have things planned for you to do, but if not then look into going to the Nairobi National Park, the giraffe centre, Kazuri Beads or shopping.

• Nairobi National Park: A sanctuary just 7km from the CBD where you can see lions, rhinos, and giraffes against a backdrop of skyscrapers.
• Wildlife Conservation: Notable sites include the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for orphaned elephants and the Giraffe Centre for hand-feeding endangered Rothschild giraffes.
• Culture & History: The Karen Blixen Museum (former home of the Out of Africa author) and the Nairobi National Museum are top heritage spots. 
   

• Infrastructure: Major projects like the Nairobi Expressway and a Ksh 220 billion plan for affordable housing and modern markets are actively reshaping the skyline.
• Sustainability: The city has launched "Green Nairobi" initiatives, including a permanent school feeding policy and intensified garbage management systems set to roll out in April 2026.
• Digital Services: Residents can now access county services like parking, health, and business permits through the Nairobi Pay portal.
