Walvis Bay

Walvis Bay (Afrikaans for "Whale Bay") is Namibia's second-largest city and its primary deep-water commercial port, situated on the Atlantic coast. Located just north of the Tropic of Capricorn, it is famous for its unique geography where the towering dunes of the Namib Desert meet the ocean.

Wildlife & Nature: The Walvis Bay Lagoon is a Ramsar-listed wetland of international importance, hosting tens of thousands of Greater and Lesser Flamingos, pelicans, and rare Damara terns.
Industrial Hub: It serves as the main gateway for Namibian trade, with a massive fishing industry and salt works that produce vast quantities of solar sea salt.
Pink Lakes: The local salt pans often appear bright pink due to the presence of Dunaliella salina algae, a popular site for photography.
